Hillsboro Mile is the name given to the A1A coastal road section splitting a gorgeous barrier island that is only 900 feet wide between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway into east and west sections. However, it is also one of the most intriguing of South Florida's hotspots. Why? Because it's challenging to nail its signature features down. Consider the following three reasons:

Firstly, its very name is confusing. Hillsboro Mile officially happens to be 3.2 miles long (that’s some margin of error!), starting mid way in the town of Hillsboro Beach and ending at Lighthouse Point to the south.

Secondly, it resembles similar real estate structures in Fort Lauderdale (The Galt Ocean Mile) and Jupiter Island, which don't receive nearly the same attention.

Thirdly, many refer to it as "Millionaire's Mile," signifying the exceptional stature of residences occupying its space. Still, multifamily property types pre-2000 projects occupy much of the real estate, which, although rated as luxurious, sell for significantly under $1 million in many cases (even as low as $250,000).  Yet, others refer to this same stretch as the "Magnificent Mile".

Finally, lanais, eight-car garages, indoor fitness centers, heated zero-edge pools, and resort-like sundecks with summer kitchens complete the “for billionaires only” picture.

Our analysis of Hillsboro Beach closed estate home deals (effectively on the Millionaire Mile section described above) over two-and-a-half years showed five homes for sale changing hands from $20.4 million to $24 million - most virtually new construction homes. Valuation per square foot (UA) started at $1,649 and stretched to nearly $2,000 on homes averaging 12,500 square feet (UA).
