The Galt Ocean Mile (GOM) is a unique Fort Lauderdale Downtown (FLD) real estate strip. As the name implies, it's 1,700 yards long; its width starts at the Atlantic waves lapping on white sands and ends at the A1A as its eastern and western borders, respectively (i.e., less than 300 yards apart). Sitting around for centuries undeveloped, GOM changed hands for about $16 million in the late 1950s when it saw construction activity break loose.
